University education in Italy

University education in Italy is one of the oldest educational systems in the world, and Italy has the oldest universities in the European Union.

Most of Italy's universities are long-standing public universities, but this does not rule out the existence of private Italian universities that have an important role in Italian university education.

Also, there are government post-secondary education centers that provide vocational education of excellent quality.

The most famous Italian universities

  • The University of Bologna, founded in 1088, is the oldest university in the world.

Scholarships in Italy for foreigners

A number of Italian universities are governed by a long-standing educational system, and international students in Italy receive the same educational services and financial aid services as Italian students.

There are government scholarships at the national and regional level that international students can apply to, and some Italian universities offer Italian scholarship programs for international students.

The Italian government offers scholarships to study in Italy for international students or Italians residing outside Italy.

A non-European international student needs a permit to stay in Italy to study whether he stays for three months or more.

Italian law differentiates between European and non-European international students. European students do not need a visa when staying in Italy for a period not exceeding three months, while non-European foreigners need a visa if they choose to stay in Italy for education or for others.
